Confetti, laughter and cumbia: NYE @Ofrendanyc

New Year’s Eve always feels special, but this year, celebrating at Ofrenda in New York City made it extra heartwarming. As a photographer, I’ve had the pleasure of working with Ofrenda for over a year now, and it’s become more than a professional gig—it’s a second home. It meant a lot to me when Guillermo invited me to DJ this night, bringing together friends, family, and the wonderful team at Ofrenda for a celebration filled with great food, cumbia, and memories.

The evening began with an incredible dinner that showcased the rich flavors and freshness that Ofrenda is known for. Classic margaritas, Smoky jalapeño favorites, guac and fish tacos got me the initial push to start playing some hits and get our tiny dance floor started.

The room was alive with laughter and conversation, setting the perfect stage for the countdown to midnight. As the clock ticked closer to the new year, the energy shifted from festive dining to full-on celebration and dance.

One moment that will stay with me is the confetti cannon countdown—or rather, the pre-countdown. Someone fired their cannon 20 seconds early, and like dominoes, everyone followed suit until there was only one left for the actual midnight burst. Laughter filled the room, a beautifully chaotic way to ring in the new year. By the end of the night, all of the beloved staff joined the dance floor, their joy as infectious as the music.

Reflecting on this evening, I’m reminded of the power of community and shared experiences. Here’s to carrying that spirit into the new year. Let’s make it one to remember.
